Welcome to week 15! 4 months in and growing more than ever. 25 Weeks to go!
👶🏽 Baby Status: This week baby is the size of a pear! 11cm and 71g. The little tiny bones have started to 'ossify' so if an X-ray was taken, the skeleton would be visible. Another cool little fact is that bub currently has the hiccups (naawwwww!). Babies don't actually inhale air until birth and up until then, the umbilical cord supplies oxygen. However baby practices breathing in the womb by inhaling the amniotic fluid in the respiratory tract, which helps lungs develop the teeny tiny air sacs that will later breathe oxygen.
🤰🏽 Mama's Status: I love 2nd trimester. Why can't the 9 months of pregnancy just be like 2nd trimester x 3? Everything feels like it's in a good flow right now. I've put on more weight this week and my appetite has increased. I've started buying maternity yoga clothes and maternity dresses. All the pregnancy apps say that this week and onwards you start to gain more and more weight. I'm now the heaviest I've ever been in my life. I'm finding it hard to embrace weight gain and do catch myself in negative body-shaming thought patterns. Gently reminding myself on this journey what's important is that baby get's the right nutrients and that I feel good throughout. I believe this wholeheartedly. But hey HUMAN and sometimes we just gotta have that gentle reminder. On another note, hair on my body is starting to increase. I haven’t had to shave my hoo ha, underarms or legs in years because of laser hair removal. I'm now shaving every 2 weeks or so. It’s undetermined if laser hair removal is 100% safe for pregnancy so here I am - a hairy, hairy beaver.
Diet: This week was the first week I noticed an increase in appetite. My diet is still a whole foods plant based diet. Cravings are starting to kick in HARD and I'm all for enjoying this journey too so been treating myself here and there!
Cravings: Frozen mango. Can't get enough!
Products I'm loving: I got my first pair of Maternity Tights! These ones are the Abi & Joseph Active Mum Hold Me 7/8 Maternity Tights and and they are buttery soft and so comfy. The seam across the belly runs low and under the belly so it's super supportive!
Pregnancy Exercises and Yoga: This week's been a bit of yoga, but of running and bit of gym - but moving my body everyday. I'm noticing my pelvis is already under strain especially when it comes to impact movements. So being doing my best to limit this.
Self Care Ritual This Week: This week I've booked in for a float in the sensory deprivation tank!
